Step 1. Book your theory test.

Step 2. Take your 12 or 6 EDT lessons.

Once you have passed your theory test. Take your 12 or 6 EDT lessons. Essential Driver Training (EDT) is a structured training programme for learner drivers consisting of 12 driving sessions with an approved driving instructor, or six sessions if you are eligible for reduced EDT. Step 3. Practice

Practice as much as is needed. The 12 or 6 EDT mandatory lessons alone will not prepare you for your test. RSA guidance (pdf) is clear that you should practice driving as much as possible on all types of roads and in all types of traffic situations with an ADI before arranging a test.

Step 4. Book your test

Step 5. Book a Car

To take your test you must arrive in a suitable car and remember to learn the show me / tell me questions. You can book the car you learned in here.
